4 Ways to Play G to C

[ padding=”0 20px 0 20px”]The G major to C major progression is one the most popular in all of music.

It has the strong feeling of resolution you get when a chord built off of the 5th degree of the scale (dominant function) moves to a chord built off of the Root note of the scale (tonic function).

This progression alone probably makes up about 99% of all song in the world. Okay it’s not that many but you get the idea.

If you’ve been playing guitar a while you probably know the way to play these chords using open chords. You might even know how to play them using barre chords.

In this lesson I’m going to show you how to play the G to C progression using those voicings as well as a few others that you might not know yet. Once you get the hang of them it will really add variety to your rhythm playing and you can transpose them to other dominant/tonic progressions ( ie. E to A, D to G etc…)
