E power chord, D power chord

This guitar backing track in the style of Eric Clapton & JJ Cale’s “Cocaine” uses only power chords. This situation gives us the opportunity to determine if the chords are major or minor by the scales we choose to use over them. In this lesson we’re going to use E minor over the E power chord and D major over the D power chord giving the impression that we’re jamming in the E Dorian mode. The two pentatonic shapes combined create the E Dorian shape.
