This is one addicting backing track, I could jam over it forever…and I have. Anyway, there are a bunch of different approaches that you can take when soloing over this groovey C Mixolydian Backing Track by Guitare Improvisation.
The first and most obvious is to use the C Mixolydian scale to create your licks. This will sound awesome but there will be a few notes that will sound “off” if you hang around on them for too long. To avoid this dilemma use the Dominant Pentatonic scale to create your slower melodies and reserve the full Mixolydian scale for fast runs and guitar pyrotechnics.
Scales You Can Use

C Mixolydian Mode
▲9th Fret
This scale will sound great over a C7 jam but beware of lingering too long on the 2nd, 4th or 6th.
C Dominant Pentatonic
▲8th Fret
You can play this scale over the entire progression and it will sound great.
