Luck finally pays off for Troy Grady as he discovers how to play the “P shape” scale pattern used by Yngwie while incorporating “Coffee Break” picking. His sound suddenly becomes fast and clear.
The “P shape” is really just a way to finger the Harmonic Minor scale on the bottom strings of the guitar. The “Coffee Break” picking technique is used with three note per string patterns. It consists of picking the first two notes (down/up) and then using a pull-off on the last note which gives your picking hand a break.
You can check out the tabs to Yngwie’s Trilogy Suite guitar part referenced in the video to try it for yourself. I can’t wait to see where Troy’s journey will take him next!
