The Pentatonic Super Highway

April 1, 2015The Weight Backing Track
Take a load off Fanny, and jam along with this Guitar Backing Track created by Yours Truly. The chord progression is in the style of “The Weight” by The Band. I’m trying an experiment here by combining the backing track and some scale suggestions into one video. If you find that this approach helps you learn let me know in the comments and I’ll make more.
For creating slow licks you can play the A Major Pentatonic over the entire progression and it will sound great. Or you can kick it up a notch by switching to the C# Major Pentatonic and D Major Pentatonic every time those chords come around. As far as creating faster licks, I’d suggest sticking to the A Major (Ionian) Mode for the entire progression and ending your phrases on a note from the pentatonic scale of the moment.
